We’ve received some correspondence relating to a video posted on Youtube, which uses footage from the film ‘Downfall’ to satirize Gloucestershire County Council’s handling of the library cuts and opposition to the cuts, and which mentions Friends of Gloucestershire Libraries.
Friends of Gloucestershire Libraries had no involvement in the making, posting online, or distribution of this video, although this wasn’t altogether clear from reports in the local media.
Following complaints, the Gloucestershire Echo have today printed the following statement:
“Our story on the spoof libraries video featuring Hitler has produced plenty of positive and negative comment. But we do need to clarify one point made in the column on Tuesday when we said “you’ve done yourselves …no favours” we were referring to the maker of the video and the Councillor who initially supported the content. We were not implying that the Friends of Gloucestershire Libraries was involved, a point that was made clear in the story and we thought was also clear in this column. Some readers have told us it was not”
