A few days ago we blogged about our fruitless attempts to secure a meeting with Culture Minister Ed Vaizey, and an exchange of emails between FoGL campaigner Alice Ross, and the Minister’s private secretary.
Through this correspondence we learnt that GCC have been called to a meeting with DCMS next week to explain their plans for our library service, and that DCMS would ‘reserve consideration’ of our request for a meeting until after this had taken place.
Today however, Alice received another email from DCMS;
Ed Vaizey has said that he would like to offer the Friends of Gloucestershire Libraries a meeting with his policy officials, to give them the opportunity to present their views about the proposed changes to the library service within the local authority area.
If you would like to take up this offer please contact…
Needless to say, we will be taking up this offer, and Alice is finalising the details with DCMS.
We welcome this opportunity to present our deep concerns about GCC’s plans at central government, and can only hope that Ed Vaizey and DCMS listen to the worries of voters and library users, unlike our ‘elected representatives’ within the GCC administration and MPs Graham and Carmichael.
We’ll keep you posted once a date and arrangements are agreed.
